Looking down the 146 m deep PX46 shaft at CERN

AICE Community Workshop at CERN

The AICE Community Workshop 2026 brought the atom interferometry, quantum sensing, particle physics, cosmology and precision measurement communities together at CERN from 1 to 3 September to review progress on the Atom Interferometer CERN Experiment. A success, and a lot of fun.

The highlight: a visit to PX46. The shaft is 146 m deep — this is where we want to build AICE. Looking down it makes the phrase “very long baseline” feel considerably more literal than it does on a slide.
